INDONESIA

BATAM - REMPANG - OTHER
Indonesia occupies the 4th position on the special ranking of the most populated countries in the world, and with its nearly 238 million inhabitants it covers the 3,34% of world population.

It's formed of over 18 thousand islands, making the country the biggest archipelago on Earth.
Geographically we could subdivide it in eight different regions:

BALI JAVA
KALIMANTAN MELAKU
NUSA TENGGARA PAPUA
SULAWESI SUMATRA

At the beginning of my travel draft, thought and planned when I was in Brisbane, I included Bali as first destination, but as soon as I was accepted in a couch request in Singapore I had to change everything, excluding Indonesia and go step by step to the north.
With the passing of the weeks and waiting for a reply by someone in Bali area, I found a new message from my account in Couch Surfing, it was a message from Ramses, one of the most humble guys that I ever met.
He lives in Batam, one of the islands of the Riau's complex, and accepted one of my requests (he is registered in the area of Singapore) and was in that moment that I decided to plan again a brief jump to the south.

The best way to get to the island is the ferry from the HarbourFront, many good companies offer transit from Singapore to the five main ports in the Island: Batam Centre, Nongsapura, Telaga Punggur, Waterfront City and Sekupang.
I've chosen Sindo Ferry (47 SGD for a return ticket) that took only 75 minutes to reach the port of Sekupang, here's the ticket:
At the desk they gave me two different one way tickets, the price for the second one was 17 dollars, plus 6 dollars for the passenger departure fee and 1 dollar insurance.
